🥇 #1 — OB Noodle House

If Greg could choose only one restaurant on this entire list, his personal favorite would be OB Noodle House.

The pho is excellent, the fried rice and spicy garlic wings have developed followings of their own, and the atmosphere is pure Ocean Beach.

It’s the kind of neighborhood restaurant that feels like it belongs exactly where it is.

🥈 #2 — Hodad’s

Coming in an extremely close second is another Ocean Beach institution:

Hodad’s.

Few restaurants capture the personality of OB quite like Hodad’s — enormous burgers, license plates covering the walls, surf culture and decades of neighborhood history.

It also happens to have one of the strongest connections to Guy Fieri of any restaurant in San Diego.

Greg’s Pick: Hodad’s is a very close #2.

1. Ramona Café — Ramona

First featured: 2007

Guy Fieri’s San Diego County story began outside the city itself.

Ramona Café became one of the earliest San Diego County restaurants featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, appearing on the episode “Totally Fried.”

Fieri sampled the kind of unapologetic comfort food that made the show famous, including fried chicken cordon bleu and enormous cinnamon rolls.

It’s exactly what an early Triple D destination should be:

small-town, oversized and proudly unpretentious.

2. Hodad’s — Ocean Beach

First featured: 2007

If one San Diego restaurant is most closely associated with Guy Fieri, Hodad’s has a very strong claim.

The Ocean Beach burger joint was already a local institution when Triple D arrived, but the national exposure helped introduce it to an enormous new audience.

Guy famously dug into Hodad’s massive bacon cheeseburger.

3. El Indio Mexican Restaurant — Middletown

First featured: 2007

El Indio has been serving San Diego since 1940.

The restaurant began as a tortilla factory before evolving into one of the city’s best-known family-owned Mexican restaurants.

Guy sampled classics including:

• Beef taquitos
• Chile relleno
• Tamales
• Pork salsa verde
• Potato taquitos

El Indio has appeared in Guy Fieri programming more than once.

You may also hear claims that the taquito was invented here. We’d treat that as part of the restaurant’s famous local lore rather than settled culinary history.

4. Studio Diner — Kearny Mesa

First featured: 2008

Studio Diner looks like somebody dropped a classic chrome diner onto a movie-studio backlot.

It’s a perfect example of how San Diego taco culture extends well beyond carne asada and California burritos.

10. OB Noodle House — Ocean Beach

Now we get to Greg’s #1 pick.

OB Noodle House combines Vietnamese and Asian-inspired comfort food with the wonderfully unconventional personality of Ocean Beach.

Guy’s featured dishes have included:

• House special fried rice
• Spicy garlic wings

The restaurant later returned in additional Triple D coverage, making it another San Diego restaurant Guy clearly remembered.

But television exposure only tells part of the story.

12. Crest Cafe — Hillcrest

Featured: 2013

Crest Cafe has long been part of the Hillcrest restaurant landscape.
